Honor one of the most important fighters of World War II naval aviation with the F6F Hellcat Tee, featuring artwork inspired by the American Heritage Museum’s F6F-3N Hellcat. This aircraft played a critical role in securing air superiority in the Pacific and helped pioneer the U.S. Navy’s night fighter capability during a pivotal period of the war.

In response to Japanese night attacks in 1942, the U.S. Navy urgently needed an effective night defense. Naval officer Evan “Pete” Aurand worked with scientists at MIT to adapt the Hellcat with early airborne radar, creating the F6F-3N. These specially modified aircraft allowed pilots to intercept enemy aircraft in total darkness, laying the foundation for modern naval night operations. Squadrons like VF(N)-76 became leaders in this new form of combat, achieving remarkable success during major campaigns including the Battle of the Philippine Sea and strikes against Iwo Jima.

The museum’s Hellcat, Bureau Number 41476, entered service in January 1944 and operated with Task Force 58 across multiple aircraft carriers. Today, it stands preserved at the American Heritage Museum as one of the most significant surviving examples of early U.S. Navy night fighters.

Made from durable, heavyweight cotton, this classic unisex tee is built for everyday comfort while showcasing crisp, long-lasting graphics. Its relaxed fit and timeless crew neckline make it easy to wear, while reinforced shoulders and a seamless body help the shirt maintain its shape through repeated washing. A soft, tear-away label ensures an irritation-free experience.
