Wild Weasel crews flew aircraft like the F-105G Thunderchief into heavily defended airspace to hunt enemy radar and surface-to-air missile sites. Equipped with advanced electronic warfare systems and radar-homing missiles such as the AGM-45 Shrike and AGM-78 Standard, their job was to provoke, locate, and destroy threats so that other strike aircraft could complete their missions more safely. It was a role defined by skill, courage, and the unofficial motto that captured their disbelief at the task: “YGBSM.”
